How to put original file names as a Tags in the EXIF data of jpg files.

I am using Windows 10. File Explorer uses EXIF data as "Tags".My Nikon P900 assigns filenames like DSCN7398.JPG. I have a set of snapshots as "headshots' of individuals. DSCN*.jpg in folders. I'll rename the files to names like Al Allens.jpg Betty Boop.jpg, Chuck Chaplin.jpg, and so forth. Before I do that, is there a bulk way to first put the original filename into a new Tag? I.e., a new EXIF field?I have a hard copy list of the people's names in the order the photos were taken not alphabetically. I'll use those hard copy lists to 'manually' rename the photo files.

    :)

File Explorer EXIF data for .mpo files

When using File Explorer and looking at details, the EXIF data is not displayed for files with the extension ".mpo". These are 3D picture files that essentially have a second ".jpg" in the file, one for the left eye view and one for the right eye view.

I thought my camera wasn't creating the EXIF data but using an EXIF viewer I see all the data is there, just not displayed by Windows 7 or 10.

Some specific data are Date Taken, Camera Model, and Camera Maker.

These should be displayed for .mpo files the same as for .jpg files. Can this be fixed? If not, is there another folder viewer that would display selected EXIF data for .jpg and .mpo files?

File Explorer EXIF data for .mpo files

I can view the .mpo 3D files as a picture using the FinePixViewer program and other programs. This is not the problem. The problem is File Explorer not displaying the .mpo file's .EXIF data like it does for .jpg files.

To directly answer you question, .mpo is not in the list of known file extensions so it can not be associated with a default program. That is another clue that Windows does not properly support the .mpo file extension even though it has been around since
    at least 2011.

How to put original file names as a Tags in the EXIF data of jpg files.

    Photographer with file explorer problem

They are pulled from the exif data as the image is being imported into the lightroom database and can be extracted as either a complete date and then formatted, or as I do as individual component, yyyy, mm, dd, then, hh, mm, ss The is also a shot number when more than one shot is within the same second nn this creates my file name including adding text delimiters which is applied to the file by LR.

At the same time I add the default entries into the File metadata, Copyright, photographer name, address, etc - the remaining data is only added as i process the file this would include File title, description, and the related ID tags locations

The full list of metadata EXIF and EXIF and IPTC and their extensions is huge

In addition to the EXIF range [ EXIF Tags ]Lightroom also fully supports the IPTC Tag set [ EXIF Tags ] plus it's possible to add your own tags which I use with some plug-ins

Windows itself only recognises a tiny subset of the full list - what you actually get from the camera will also vary considerably dependent on what is the perceived usage of the camera
