How to recover images from old HDD shortcuts after install of Windows on SSD

I have a HDD which contains 512 GB of space. As the HDD was super slow and took a lot of time to boot up my PC, I ordered an SSD. I did not do any changes to the HDD whatsoever and installed Windows from scratch on the newly bought SSD. But when I tried to access old images present in my old HDD, all of them are showing "shortcut". The images contain the same path as before and bear the same name but have an .exe after their name. I am understandably freaked out by this. There were over 10,000 images. How can I recover them? Please someone help me. Here is a screenshot:

W10 - Install new SSD, format old HDD Query

Hello, I have an old Dell Optiplex 790 that I am in the process of upgrading so it can be somewhat usable again. Next step is to install a new SSD. I have a genuine version of Windows 10 installed on the existing HDD. I am familiar with reinstalling windows and formatting drives, but I have never been in this scenario. I want to format the existing HDD to a clean state, and install windows on the new SSD. Please can someone explain what the most efficient steps are for doing this? The HDD will just be used for storing media (images, video, music etc.) Thanks.

  3. Install of Win 10 from old HDD to new SSD

My PC has a WD 1 T HDD as the primary drive with Win 10 installed. There is also an 2nd older WD HDD for data storage purposes if ever needed - unlikely.

I recently bought a new 500 GB SSD drive. I would like to install my WIN 10 on the new SSD using it as the primary drive.

To install on the new SSD, would I unplug the WD 1 T HDD and install the new SSD drive on the MB and then install Win 10 on the SSD.

After the above, I assume I then reconnect The WD 1 T HDD. With the OS on the New SSD, will the apps and programs that are on the WD HDD operate or will I have to reinstall them on the new SSD As well how do I delete Win 10 from the HDD - do I simply delete the files or delete the partitions or just don’t bother. The WD HDD a was not even close to being full and was bought for faster access.

Any suggestions on how to get the new SSD to work properly and windows off the old WD HDD so it does not interfere with the new SSD would be appreciated.

How to recover images from old HDD shortcuts after install of Windows on SSD

Restore an existing windows 10 system image not to the old failing HDD but to a new SSD

I don't want to do that just yet, cause I want to have 2 systems: one running on an old failing internal HDD, and a new one running on a new external SSD.

Besides, replacing the HDD with the SSD on this computer will be a pain, so I want to take one step at a time.
