Windows 10: How to recover old photos on windows

I remember whenever I logged in to my email on a new computer in Windows it would automatically recover my old photos from the old computer. I recently formatted my PC and when I logged in to my Windows account my old pictures and videos didn't show up I thought that maybe it was in onedrive so I checked one drive but it still isn't there and my photos aren't saved anywhere else is there a way I could recover those files?

Recovering photos: Help appreciated.

Due to a camera malfunction, some photos from the memory card were deleted. My friend and me were able to recover them with help of recovery software but some photos are grayed out(50%). The memory card was left intact and no new data was written in our knowledge. It is in the FAT file format and a 4 GB card.

Is there any way to recover the photos in their original state?
