Windows 10: How to regain access to my desktop folder after unlinking onedrive

Disclaimer: I am not one of the people who care enough to understand one drive. I think of it as making a double backup somewhere I designate. That is the only utility. It should not interfere with my main storage upon unlinking it.The folder I had selected was on an external hard drive.I unlinked my account, and now 1 all my icons are gone from the desktop file 2 the taskbar icons are gone 3 I cannot copy any shortcut to the desktop. I checked my user file and the desktop folder is not there anyway. Copying it from an old backup does not restore the icons.See examples of when opening a new

Unlink Pictures Folder from OneDrive

Hello there,

I am attempting to unlink the Pictures folder in Windows 10 from OneDrive. I have far too many pictures currently and don't want to have them eat up up space. I believe I was able to do it before I reformatted my computer, but it no longer lets me bypass it. I get a message saying Can't stop syncing folder.

Any suggestions?

Move the OneDrive Folder

Move the OneDrive Folder in Windows 10

When you set up OneDrive to sync with your computer, a folder C:\Users\XXXX\OneDrive will be created to store the contents. XXXX denotes your username. To move this folder to another location follow these simple steps:

1. Unlink OneDrive from your PC:

• Go to the taskbar notification area
• Right-click on the OneDrive icon
• Select settings
• Click: Unlink this PC

2. Delete the C:\Users\XXXX\OneDrive folder

3. Create a new folder (target folder) for OneDrive contents, e.g. D:\OneDrive

4. Create Directory Junction for the new folder

• In the search area of the taskbar type CMD and press Ctrl+Shift+Enter
• In the command window type

mklink /J C:\Users\XXXX\OneDrive D:\OneDrive

adjusting it to your specific username and selection of the target folder

5. Link again OneDrive to your PC using the OneDrive icon in the taskbar notification area
