    windows 10 tells me that my scanner is not connected yet it shows in the device manager as active. I cannot scan currently but have in the past.

    Try reinstalling the full printer software package from
    Epson WorkForce WF-3640 | WorkForce Series | All-In-Ones | Printers | Support | Epson US    . Download the full combo package at the top, install it over the existing one.

    For the scanner to communicate with the PC it needs to run when Windows starts so if this has somehow been lost reinstalling the package should refresh it. Then be sure not to delete the scanner listing from Startup list.

    If this is not enough let us know and we'll have more steps.
