Windows 10: How to Reinstall Win 10 after the deadline?

I have a computer that is just over a year old. It was originally Win 8, and I upgraded to Win 10 and have been running it for most of that time.

Last week I had a networking driver issue, and in trying to fix that, I did a factory re-set to try to get the computer to load all my drivers etc. It rolled me back to Win 8.

I took the computer in to the Geek Squad and they fixed the networking issue. They said they thought I could get back my Win 10 since I did have a reserved and registered copy.

I can't figure out how to do it. Is it possible? I missed the download deadline while my computer was not able to get online. I don't think the program is still resident on my hard drive, though I really don't know if that's true.

When you upgraded from a previous version of Windows or receive a new computer preinstalled with Windows 10, what happened is the hardware (your PC) will get a digital entitlement, where a unique signature of the computer will be stored on Microsoft Activation
Servers. The Windows 7 or Windows 8 genuine license you were previously running will be exchanged for a diagnostics key.

Anytime you need to reinstall Windows 10 on that machine, just proceed to reinstall Windows 10. It will automatically reactivate.

So, there is no need to know or get a product key, if you need to reinstall Windows 10, you can use your Windows 7 or Windows 8 product key or use the reset function in Windows 10.

If you are prompted to enter a product key, click 'I don't have a key' and 'Do this later'

Download the Media Creation Tool Now

Right click the MediaCreationTool.exe file then click
Run as administrator.

Select the option Upgrade this PC now if you want to upgrade right away, of if you want to download a ISO image or create a bootable copy on a USB thumb drive, choose
Create installation media for another PC then click Next

I upgraded to WIN 10 from Win 7 during the free upgrade period. I've had to erase my hard drive due to problems and I currently have Win 7 installed again. How can I reinstall Win 10 again for free - how do I go about doing that?

 

Hello Inna Minnit and welcome to Tenforums. If when you upgraded to Windows 10 previously it was activated, Microsoft should have a Digital License on their activation Servers for your computer. You should be able to do an Upgrade install (Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums) and Windows should activate. I would recommend you make an image of your current Operating System before beginning, just in case something goes wrong.
