Windows 10: how to reinstall windows without losing my partition

Hey guys I'm planning to reinstall my OS and I'm kind of a newbie. I'd like to ask some questions Once I get to this window this is an example for the sake of explanation not my actual partitions I have one hard drive divided into two partitions: "C" for the system 237GB and "D" for my files 931 GB There are options to delete, format, etc. Which drive should I choose and should I format or delete? Or maybe I can do both like first format then delete? What do you recommend me so I can install windows and not lose my files on the "D" partition?Thanks in advance!

W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

- press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
- diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
- list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
- select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
- clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
- create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
- exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
- click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that

 

How to increase size for my windows-partition?

oh yes... i forgot to mention that i will be reinstalling my windows tonight, from my current winxp to win7... so it doesn't matter if i lose data on my windows-partition since i will be formating it anyway. as long as i don't lose the stuff i've got on the other partition, it's ok.. *Smile so i should use the Easeus Partition manager for this before i start the reinstallation process, huh?

You can just format the partition that windows is on, without losing data in the other partitions. You will have to reinstall all of your programs and games though.
