Windows 10: How to remove a "frame" on my desktop

Recently I have seen that my laptop desktop seems to have a "frame" on it. I have marked the frame on the attached screenshot. I can't seem to get rid of it.

Any ideas (1) how it happened, and (2) how to get rid of it permanently? It has no effect (except for my frustration) on the workings of my laptop. The "frame" cannot be re-sized, nor moved.

What are third party tag editors?

 

If you reset the wallpaper, does it still appear? If it isn't wallpaper related, it looks like an app that is hung up. I'm guessing it appears even after a restart?

..and yes, it does reappear after I restart

 

You would choose another wallpaper file or use one of your own graphics files and see if the frame is still there.

 

If it is still there you may want to check your display resolution to see if it the same IE 1920 x 1080...etc

 

Hi, are you by any chance using a program that produces drop shadows?
Also, have a look at your task manager, look for Application Frame Host (ApplicationFrameHost.exe) and end it. I'll bet the frame outline disappears.

(It runs every time you launch a universal app).

That did work, but now the "frame" is back on my desktop. I used dalchina's method detailed in his post, and the frame dissapeared for a while. Now it is back.

 

Hi, closing that process was never intended as a solution.. only to check the connection with that process.

Ok, so you now know it's associated with a universal app. Now, can you determine when it occurs, and if it is associated with only one universal app? When I encountered a similar problem, I had multiple such frames appearing, and as I said, that was an incompatibility with an old program to generate drop shadows, in which I had to set an exception.

As you say you have no such program, there must be some other cause. If you can identify what happens before it appears, then start from (e.g.) a clean boot and find it never happens, what you need to then do is go through a process of elimination.

 

Thanks again for your input. I have just booted up my laptop, and the "frame" is not there now. I'll follow your suggestions, and see what happens
