  1. How to remove app listed in the default app options?

While trying to set default apps and not finding the app I wanted on the pop up list in default app settings, I selected "Choose an app on your PC".The problem is, the file I actually selected is not an executable but was entered as a choice in the default app pop up list nonetheless. ShootNOW ... I'd like to remove the file from the list of default app options. It's nothing more than a useless distraction that would never work as a default app. However, while I now can easily ADD apps to the default options list ... once added, I don't know how to REMOVE them. HELP !!!Thank you for your consid

    :)

  2. How to remove an uninstalled app from the default apps list?

I uninstalled Calibre (an e-book reader). After uninstalling, I noticed that when I right click a .epub file, Calibre still appears as an option. Clicking on it does nothing because it is uninstalled.

I suspected that I may still get shown the option to open files with Calibre because it may still be the default app for some formats that my new e-book reader (Adobe Digitial Editions) does not support. I checked the Default Apps list (Settings > Apps > Default Apps), and Calibre is still there. I changed the default app for all the formats that were set to open with Calibre and restarted my PC, but it still shows in the default apps list and in the 'open with' drop-down menu. The location shown in the drop-down menu suggestion does not exist. I assume it got deleted in the uninstallation process.
How can I remove Calibre from the places mentioned?

Removing duplicate app entries from the default files list

    Hi Roger,

There's a possibility that Firefox isn't uninstalled completely on your computer. We suggest that you uninstall it in the
Settings app by following these steps:

    • On Start, select that cog icon or Settings.
    • Go to Apps and select the program that you want to uninstall.
    • Select Uninstall and follow the instructions on the screen.

This will completely remove Firefox from your system and from the Default Apps list. You can also check and save this article that in case you need a guide to

repair or remove programs in Windows 10
    .

Let us know how it goes and we'll assist you further.

How to remove app listed in the default app options?

Application not showing in default app

Do this for each file extension you want to set up to run with your chosen application: 1 Right click on a file with the file extension you want to set up, 2 Open with, 3 If the one you want is not in the list then Choose another app, 4 Set the Always use this ... checkbox, 5 If the one you want is not in the list then More apps, 6 If the one you want is not in the list then Look for another app on this PC, 7 Browse to and select the chosen application's .exe file, click on Open, 8 It will then open the file in the chosen app. 9 All other files with the same file extension should also run in your chosen app if you now simply double-click on them. Most of this is also explained with pretty pictures in Option 2 of Choose Default Apps - TenForumsTutorials but it leaves out my steps 6, 7. Instead, the tutorial takes a bit of a shortcut that I generally don't take. If you had only been interested in getting your chosen apps in the Open with list instead of working through to set them as the default app for those file extensions then I would have suggested a different tutorial: Remove, Add Programs from Open with Context Menu - TenForumsTutorials and I would have advised you to take note of post #26 in that tutorial thread Remove, Add Programs from Open with Context Menu [hexaae UWPApps note #26] - TenForumsTutorials All the best, Denis
