I've a new PC; I put all My Music onto USB from my old PC & transferred it to Media Player MP in new PC which had MP on it. On new PC now, music is duplicated. I still have all My Music on old PC which I wish to retain.

Windows Media Player location for duplicate removal

    Hi Ron,

The Windows Media Player supports common media file types. To find its location in Windows 10, click
    here.

To delete duplicate files in the Windows Media Player, follow these steps:

    • Gather the media files. Press the Alt key to show the hidden menu bar, then select
File > Manage Libraries > Music.
    • You’ll see the default location on the screen. Add new folders containing all the media files. Once you’ve added them, click
      OK.
    • Click the Title column head. This will rearrange all the media items in ascending manner.
    • Right-click a duplicate media file, then choose Open file location. Delete the file from File Explorer.

Get back to us should you need further assistance.

Can't remove duplicate music tracks in Windows Media Player (WMP)

    Hi Alan,

The above issue might occur due to presence of virus/malware content or missing/corrupted application files and folders on the computer.

Before we assist further, I would like to ask you a few questions:

    • Did you check if similar issue persists on deleting and adding the songs again to the music application?

    • Did you check for the presence of virus/malware content on the computer?

Running the troubleshooter will help in detecting and identifying the cause of the issue and in certain cases will fix to enhance the performance of the system.

Method 1: Run the Windows Media Player Library
troubleshooter by following the steps below to check if any application components are missing/changed.

    • Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type
troubleshooter and select the top most search result.

    • Click on View all from left side panel of the screen.

    • Select Windows Media Player Library,
click on Advanced option and check Apply repairs automatically
      option.

    • Follow the on screen instructions and wait for the troubleshooter to complete.

    • Close the window after troubleshooting is complete and check if the changes are effective.

Also check if similar issue persists on deleting and re-adding songs to
    Windows Media Player
    application on the computer.

Method 2: Scan the PC for the presence of virus/malware by running the antivirus security software. Run the antivirus security software twice to detect and confirm the presence of malware/virus
on your PC. Check for the status of the scan to view the presence of virus/malware.

Method 3: If the issue persists, disable and enable the
Windows Media Player by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.

    • Press Windows icon key on the keyboard, type
Windows Media Player, right click on the top most search result and select
      Uninstall option.

    • From the window, click on Turn Windows feature on or off.

    • Expand the Media Features option from the window, and uncheck the
      Windows Media Player.

    • Follow the steps from ‘a’ to ‘c’, except check the
Windows Media Player option and check if the issue is resolved.

Write to us with the status of duplicated songs showing in Windows Media Player on the computer in the same post for further assistance.
Your reply is most important for us to ensure we assist you accordingly.

    Thank you.
