Windows 10: How to rename hard drive device name

I have two hard drives with the exact same device name, both with bootable Windows versions on them, and I wish to rename them to make them distinguishable from each other when I view them from the BIOS or boot menu. Could someone please advise if this is possible, and if so, how to do so? Please note that I am not referring to the volume name, but the actual device name as seen when viewing the drives from the Device Manager or Disk Management applications.Konan T-A Lim.Sydney, Australia.

unable to rename external hard drive

I tried what you said, but it still says "you need permission to perform this action". I have access to everything on the drive. It is only the autorun.inf that i no longer have access to and because of that when i rename the drive it shows the new name
in disk management but it stays the same in my computer. I am using windows 10 pro.

• Open your External Hard Drive file in File Explorer.
• Type the name of the file you want to search on the search box and click Enter.

The file will show up in Search Results and you will be able to move it to the correct folder.

cannot rename bluetooth device on Win 11

None of these worked for me as nothing happens when we click on the Bluetooth device in the Settings app (either in the "Bluetooth & devices" section or "Bluetooth & devices > Devices" section. Clicking on the three dots button in front of the device name only gives two options "disconnect" and "remove device".

The Control Panel solution also takes one to the Settings app when we click on the Device and Printers.



SOLUTION:

However, I found that I could rename my Bluetooth device in the Settings app by following the steps given below.

1. Open the Settings app.

2. Select System from the left pane.

3. Select Sound from the right pane.

4. Click on the device, that you want to rename, from the list under "Output" (at the top).

5. At the top, below the device name, click the Rename button.

6. A new dialog will open where you could rename your device.

7. After renaming the device, click on the Rename button in the dialog to confirm.



SUGGESTION:

Please allow the users to rename a Bluetooth device right from the "Bluetooth & devices" section as that's the most convenient way. Clicking on the device should open a device details page where one should be allowed to rename the device. Preferably, the three dots button in front of the Bluetooth device name should list the option to "Rename". Thanks!
