    how to report a scammer that locked my computer?


    My computer was suddenly frozen yesterday and was blaring like a fire alarm and said to immediately call microsoft at 855-506-5076. I did and realized this was a fake number. I could not turn off computer totally frozen. I then went on line for a phone number to microsoft and was given 877-506-5076. I called this number answered Microsoft -- so proceeded to have tech attempt to unfreeze my computer -- he did take control of my computer -- after about two hours computer was restored but he removed malwarebites and mcAfee. He then told me to shut down computer and call him today January 15

    Computer Locked by Scammers

    I've just got a laptop in that's running Windows 10. The owner thought he was dealing with his broadband provider as he has been having trouble with his internet. However, it turns out it was a scam and he allowed them access to his laptop. When they asked him to login to his bank account he realised what was going on but the scammers then locked his computer. So now you can login but just get a message saying LOCKED. It then logs out after a minute or two. I've tried using a cmd prompt to see what that shows but it says it is encrypted with BitLocker which the customer says he hasn't setup.

    I've included a screen shot of the locked screen.

    Anything that can be done or has he lost everything?

    If I were this person. I would contact any and all financial institutions that he may have login information stored on that computer.

    Can you enter the BIOS and boot from a USB and take a look around? If his data is intact then you could use a Linux live USB and save his data?
