Windows 10: How to reset Win10 laptop IP address.

My ISP is Spectrum Cable [formerly TimeWarner Cable] and I have a Motorola Modem/wifi router all of which work fine and have for several years. I recently tried to use the newly installed Spectrum Modem [capable of much faster speeds] instead of the old Motorola modem. When I switch to the Spectrum modem my computer [and phone as well] will not find the internet. Spectrum tells me that my Win10 Toshiba laptop is not finding the new modems IP address and I need to 'reset' my computers IP address via RUN CMD NETSH INT IP RESET. I tried that [and rebooted computer] but no luck. Switched back to the Motorola modem and all is fine. Any thoughts on how to find the internet on the new Spectrum modem? Computer is connected with modem via Ethernet cable.

This issue could have occurred due incorrect TCP\IP Address settings.



Try the steps listed here:



Method 1:

I suggest you to reset TCP\IP and check if it helps.

Method 2:

If the issue persists, I suggest you to try these steps to Flush DNS and request a new IP address from your ISP server. Check if it helps.

• 
  Click on
  Start and type cmd on start search.
  
• 
  Right-click on command prompt Run
  and selectas administrator.
  
• 
  At the command prompt, type the following commands and hit
  Enter after each command.
  

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

exit

Finding IP address

Hello,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below to find printer’s IP address:

1. Type Devices and Printers in the Windows search bar.
   
2. Select on the printer and click on
   Manage.
   
3. Click on the Ports tab.
   You will be able to find printer’s IP address under the ‘Ports’ tab.
   

Few printers also have a “Test print” option on the printer. When you print a test page from network printer, the page shows the IP address along with other details.

Note: If it is set on DHCP mode the IP address will constantly change.
The IP address is assigned automatically by your router using a protocol called DHCP.

2 IP address conflict

Hi Jessirel,

IP address conflict usually occurs after defining a static IP address. To resolve, try following these steps:

Run the Network troubleshooter

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Network troubleshooter, and then select
   Identify and repair network problems from the list of results.
2. Follow the steps in the troubleshooter and see if that fixes the problem.

If that doesn’t fix your connection problem, try these things:

• Reset the TCP/IP stack
• Release the IP address
• Renew the IP address
• Flush and reset the DNS client resolver cache

Run these networking commands in Command Prompt:

1. In the search box on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click)
   Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator >
   Yes.
2. At the command prompt, run the following commands in the listed order, and then check to see if that fixes your connection problem:
   • Type netsh winsock reset and press Enter.
   • Type netsh int ip reset and press Enter.
   • Type ipconfig /release and press Enter.
   • Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter.
   • Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter.
