  1. How to restore explorer shell without clean install win10?

Hello, I was being an ignorant and messing with my windows file explorer shell using an open source software called Open-Shell and then I'm left with this bugged explorer: screenshots on imgur (the bug is: file menu bar white even in dark mode, it's not in right place and it's not responsive, it's sluggish and buttons do nothing) (what I was trying to achieve is details pane at the bottom in win7 style with detailed info and it works perfectly. Also I wanted to remove the file menu bar and ribbon and replace it with win7 style toolbar, which is also present below the bugged bar and works perfectly.)

I tried every standard solution. I can't restore point back in time. I tried SFC, DISM, uninstalling the shell software, installing it back again to change settings, uninstalling using revo uninstaller, trying to override it with another (called OldNewExplorer) etc etc. None of these standard procedures worked.

And I hate that googling the problem even with keywords like 'restore original file explorer shell' or 'windows10 reset shell extensions' still yielded results like ctrl+shift+esc opens your task manager, from there you can restart explorer.exe etc etc all windows help sites are full of these basic thrash info, even mvp's or people like that in microsoft's own help sites are like robot answering machines telling everyone to do generic thrash and hope it solves their problem automagically. So I decided to ask to Reddit. Any help or ideas are appreciated.

  3. Clean Install Workaround for Vista

You may remember this news story on techPowerUp! a couple of days ago relating to the lack of clean installs when using the Upgrade Editions of Vista, which required an old OS to be installed. However, Paul Thurrott has managed to find a workaround for this issue, which ironically lets users do a clean install Vista without any previous version of Windows, albeit a little tedious. Here are the steps:
    • Boot from the Windows Vista Upgrade DVD as normal
    • When prompted for a product code, leave this blank
    • Select the version of Vista you have purchased and let Vista install
    • When you boot to your desktop for the first time, run the Vista setup from Windows
    • This time enter your product key
    • When asked whether you want to do an Upgrade of Custom install, select custom and choose a clean install
    • Windows will now install for a second time and you should be able to activate it
Remember, these steps are only advised for use in order to achieve a clean install of Vista, it is only legal to use the upgrade editions if you have previously purchased the appropriate version of Windows.

How to restore explorer shell without clean install win10?

How can I remove this virus remnant?

I was also going to suggest Autoruns.

Check to make sure it isn't attaching itself to explorer. It should be the 3rd thing listed in Autoruns, the listing for the Shell. It should just be Explorer.exe. If it is anything else, that might be your problem.
