Cannot restore the system image

Original title: Restore system Immage

My laptop had to reformatted because of a computer lock. I am trying to use a system backup of windows 10 made before the reformatting. I presently have windows 10The system image resides on an external hard drive but I see no way to execute the system restore.
Is this possible?

• Are you trying to restore the system image or create a system image?
  
• Are you able to see the external drive in File Explorer?
