Windows 10: How to retrieve files that won’t transfer/backup in WinRE, cmd notepad, xcopy, “Error...

Greetings,I’m posting since I’m at my wits end with this and tried every suggestion I could find. Thank those previously who posted and responded in the comments. Its easy to run as file transfer (XCOPY) or (Robocopy) are installed with the OS..XCOPY is easy to use,simply go to run,type: XCOPY C:\*.* E:\ /c/h/e/k/r

This prompt transfers all of C: to a new HD (E,but any other letter will work,agree to all in the DOS window..Now,you don't want to transfer all,so youre cmds are good till /c/h/e/k/r use cmds that you want to transfer,open cmd & type: XCOPY /? or go
to Microsoft/TechNet link for its cmds.

Sorry I didn't see the pc to pc transfer,XCOPY still might work,but a different destination is needed.Also,this text is HD to internal HD,but read the TechNet listing,to make it work,maybe a USB Flash drive would be the answer..

@samd : There are other utilities available in windows for copying files such as xcopy and robocopy.
You may want to look into them if you are regularly doing file copies (ie. backups).

Hi Paul,

Thank you for keeping us updated.

Files are automatically transferred to the new operating system when you upgrade therefore, you need not transfer anything. If you created a backup before you initiated the upgrade, you could've restored the files should there be any data loss. However,
if there are some missing files, I would suggest you to try the steps suggested above and check if you are able to retrieve the files.
