    How to return a laptop and ensure no data loss without removing manufacture installed software


    I am returning a laptop I just purchased. I want to ensure removal of all of my data without removing any software installed by the manufacturer. I have:Uninstalled any personally installed softwareDisconnect OneDriveChecked my 'users' folder and removed any stragglersBut I can't seem to get rid of File Explorer 'recents' and the files will still open. Each time I remove files from recents, I just get a new list of the files I accessed prior to that list. There appears to be no end in sight. I have also tried these things:In File Explorer settings, I selected the Clear File Explorer Histo

    To return the laptop or any hardware related issues, I suggest you to get in touch with the Manufacturer.

    Please answer the questions below to assist you better.

    - Did you make changes prior to this issue?

    - Are you able the see light when you turn on the laptop?

    I suggest you to do a power drain by following the steps below.


    • Remove the battery.

    • Long press the power button for 15-20 seconds.

    • Start the computer by connecting the power source (battery should not be connected).

    • Check if the problem still persists while shutting down the computer.

    • If not, then connect the battery and can use the computer.

  3. Stuck in Returning to previous build

    Hi Paul,

    Thank you for posting in Community.

    Before we proceed, I would like you to provide the information stated below:

    1. What task where you performing when you receive the Black screen?

    2. Where you installing any software?

    3. Can you access your desktop screen?

    If not, then I would suggest that you perform Power Drain and check if you can return back to your desktop screen. To do so follow the steps below:

    • Unplug the charger and remove the battery of your laptop, if using a desktop remove the power cord.
    • Press and hold the Power button for 30sec
    • Plug the charger/power cord and restart system.

    I would also suggest that you refer to the Microsoft Article Troubleshoot blue screen errors
    provided in the link below
