  1. How to run Windows 10 Bootable Drive if file size is too big for UEFI?

So. Windows 10 is stuck in a loop on boot. Every method to get into a safe mode or WinRE has failed. I'm able to run Ubuntu from a live USB, and everything works, drives and all. I've backed-up necessary files.

So, my BIOS will only boot from a UEFI USB, which is limited to 4 gigs. The BIOS doesn't want to recognize NTFS, which can handle > 4 gigs. The files for the ISO from Windows for Windows 10 are something like 4.1 gigs. I feel like I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. Would it be typical for a BIOS to update to being able to handle NTFS, too?

That seems to be the only solution I can think of. I have an Ubuntu machine but no other Windows machines. I may have an old version of Windows XP on a disc somewhere. Do I have any options?

Is there something I can do on the hard drive that has Windows installed? Delete/replace certain files to make it boot properly? Any pointers would be helpful. I'm not extremely tech savvy, but I don't mind fiddling with stuff. Thanks!

  2. Install Windows 10 using UEFI bootable USB thumb drive

You need to go into you system bios and select allow uefi usb drive. Then add the UEFI usb drive to the boot menu

better way to partition aand create an bootable usb.

For the UEFI system, we can use these steps to create the bootable USB:

1.Locate a 4GB or larger USB flash drive

2.Open Diskpart and run the following command cmd admin type diskpart

    • Type DiskPart in the command prompt.
    • Type "List Disk” (make note of the disk number of the target USB drive).
    • Type "Select Disk X”, where X is the target USB drive noted in step 4.
    • Type "Clean”.
    • Type "Create Partition Primary”.
    • Type "format FS=fat32 quick”.
    • Type "Active”.
    • Type "Assign".
    • Type "Exit".

Copy your ISO files to the drive and reboot

never use UEFI it better to repartition and remove UEFI go with legacy bois

    Multi-bootable USB

Hey guys from TPU, couldn't find any specific thread pertaining to the question asked on title. As mentioned, I'm trying to create a bootable USB, but with many specifics boots available.

I've been trying to create one with multiple boot device including one that enables me to run Windows 10 directly on the USB Thumb Drive but to no avail.

The list of bootable images i'm trying to create are

    1. Windows 10 (A full OS running from thumb drive)
    2. Windows 10 ISO (Bootable disk image for fresh install)
    3. MemTest86+

Have tried YUMI or UUI from the website USB PenDrive Linux but as this is my first time, i don't know how am i screwing up or am doing it right.. Anyone got a rough idea on a step by step guide? Thanks!

How to run Windows 10 Bootable Drive if file size is too big for UEFI?

Windows 10 bootable USB has 2 UEFI patitions?

It's highly unlikely that the USB flash drive will boot in UEFI mode. Most computers will only boot in UEFI mode from a FAT32 partition. What is really strange is in the list of volumes, there is an E: drive "UEFI_NTFS" with a 0 byte size.

I would suggest you make a common Windows 10 installation USB flash drive instead of whatever crazy format Rufus created. In a command prompt (Admin) run:

    diskpart
    list disk
select disk # <-replace the # with the actual number for the USB flash drive
clean <- this will erase the drive selected above, make sure it is the USB flash drive!
    create part pri
    format fs=fat32 quick
    active
    assign letter=u
    exit
    exit

Then mount the Windows 10 ISO file. In Windows 8 and 10 you can mount an ISO file directly in file explorer. Then copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the USB flash Drive (UHow to run Windows 10 Bootable Drive if file size is too big for UEFI? :). Now you have the standard Windows 10 installation USB flash drive that will boot in either a legacy BIOS or UEFI computer.
