Windows 10: How to send sound to headphone socket when using HDMI cable to projector

How to send sound to headphone socket when using HDMI cable to projector? When plugged into tv, the tv speakers work. With projector, there is no sound. Help!

HDMI->VGA adapter prevents me getting sound from my laptop

My laptop only has HDMI out and the external monitors I have access to here (including a projector) are old VGA-only.

I have a HDMI->VGA adapter but when I use this I lose any sound output from the laptop, presumably because it thinks a HMI cable is connected and is sending the sound that way?

I can't get sound through the laptop speakers or the headphone-out 3.5mm socket. Is this likely something I can resolve in Windows 10 settings?

The fact that this has worked well for you using other projectors suggests that the problem's not in your laptop, Windows, Powerpoint etc, but rather in the projector.

Perhaps the older projector supports video but not sound over HDMI, but the computer, seeing the HDMI connection, is still sending the sound out the HDMI port rather than to its own speakers/the earphone jack.

It's usually possible to scare up a PDF of projector manuals with a bit of searching on the web. That might shed light.

Hi David,

I would like to inform that it is not possible to output sound through both the HDMI and the headphone jack simultaneously.

But you can watch video through HDMI and listen via headphone jack.

Follow the steps below.

• Right click on the speaker icon in the taskbar
• Left click playback devices
• Right click HDMI
• Select Disable.
