Windows 10 Ver. 1909 21H1 PC = HP EliteDesk 800 After initial install of Win.10 few months ago, I was able to modify the Registry and Value to allow Auto Logon to my User Account vs. going through Admin.Acct. all the time. However, a recent Win.Update seems to have reverted the default logon back to Admin.Acct. only. The instruction to modify via regedit to Registry Key to Winlogon and AutoAdminLogon shows the Value is already set correctly, at "0". So, nothing to modify. The instruction states the setting "0" should allow direct logon to chosen default - User Account. But Win10 opens u

    Non Admin acct questions

I think you may just be looking in the wrong place. When you sign out the sign in screen and password box will be for the account that has just signed out. It's the same for a restart, the sign in screen will be for the last user that had signed in.

Sign out, then look for a list of names in the lower left corner of the sign in screen. All available accounts should be listed there, click on the one you want to change the sign in screen to be for that user. See the screenshot at step 2 in this tutorial.

    Sign in to Windows 10

Correct, the user folder is not created until the first sign in.

    No User Acct has Admin

Tried all six. Access denied to every option. Can not install upgrades, new software, nothing. I can log in two ways (with Microsoft using email address and password and Local using a PIN) but have NO ADMIN account. Gone. Disappeared. Or I deleted it. Anything is possible. New laptop. New to Windows 10. Former computer specialist for gov't for more than 15 years and I just want to throw Windows 10 out the window. Seriously, I can't install all my software or updates because "Yes" is grayed out. DOS commands are my old friends so I don't have a problem moving around directories, commands, etc. No Admin acct listed or active. Couldn't activate with what acct is available by changing "administrator" to "user name." Am at a total loss. Dead in the water, so to speak.

Settings can't be opened using the built-in administrator account

    Hello,
Unfortunately I have the same issue as Dabz from upgrading win7 to win10.
I've tried opening settings using all the suggested methods and it will not load using my account with Administrator access nor the built-in Administrator profile. I also tried other methods not listed such as using Run. Control panel is just a stepping stone to add users in Settings.
I'm also having explorer.exe issues, which I believe is preventing Settings from loading.
Using cmd (Admin) I successfully created a new user profile [and granted admin access also using cmd (Admin)], however win10 will not allow this account to log on. win10 does not list this new user within control panel but it does in the start menu. win10 will not allow to log in or switch to the new account via the start menu either.
I can access settings in Safe Mode but this will not allow me to create a new account.
Any help/suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers
