Windows 10: how to set headphones as input device recording

i want to set my headphone as an input/ recording device both input and output, something like the app called audacity, where you can have your headphones as input and output [ when like recording audio or playing the sounds that i am hearing. i know i have Stereo Mix but for some apps it doesn't work properly so i want to find a way to make my headphone an input device or input and output

Headphones not showing up in the input devices

Everytime I plug in my headphones the audio sounds fine but it does not record sound. I've tried using the same headphones with my phone and it works fine. When it does record sound its using the mic next to the camera because my headphones just does not
show up in the input devices list.

I would suggest you to set headphones as default device and check, if it works.

  Right click on the volume icon in the system tray and then click "Recording devices"
  
• 
  Right click on the blank space in the popped up window and then select "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices".

  Right click on headphones and then click "Enable".
  
• 
  Highlight the headphones and then choose "Set as Default Device".
  
• 
  Click Apply and OK.

can't set headphones as default device

1. Right click onSound icon which is at the bottom left corner of the screen under System icons.

2. Then click on Recording Devices.

3. Click on Recording Tab.

4. Right click on Microphone or
headphones and click on Set as Default Device.
