Windows 10: How to set the desktop folder path? And why did the folder suddenly disappear from the D drive?

I previously set the E drive with 200 GB of space as the desktop folder. Since the E drive is where I store my documents, my desktop is very messy, so I want to migrate the desktop folder to the "desktop folder" under the D drive. As a result, the folder I want to set the desktop path to disappear from the graphical interface of the file manager, and I can only enter the folder path manually. This also caused a large number of shortcuts I created on the desktop to disappear. What's even more strange is that my "Desktop" folder is not called desktop, but the file path of the E drive. Disappearing folder

I've encountered a strange problem in windows 10 where I tried to delete a file in a folder, but ended up deleting the whole directory. It did so without the usual pop-up to confirm delete or say it was too big for the recycle bin. It was my Videos folder, so pretty big, but the disk allocation has also remained the same.

I've always had a problem with 'double icons' for the different user folders, including videos, and so I'm thinking it could have something to do with the whole thing, especially as now one of the two video folders has disappeared from the users folders.

The first thing i tried was 'Undo delete', but it just bought the folder back with non of the contents. Then, I went straight to Recuva, but it came up blank (there must have been over 50 videos in the folder)

I'm at a little bit of a loss as where to start looking for this disappeared folder and was hoping someone might have some suggestions?

Desktop is my D: Drive - no desktop folder

Open File Explorer and open your D drive, right click and create a new Folder, name it Desktop

Close File Explorer

Open the Registry Editor again, it will still be on the same page

Double click Desktop in the right pan, then set its value data to this and click OK

D:\Desktop

Close the Registry Editor, then restart (not shut down) your PC

That will have split your Desktop and D drive, and your Desktop will now be in that new folder

You may then need to move any files that should be on your Desktop from the D drive into that new Desktop folder just to tidy things up . . .

Desktop folder location set at disk d: mistakenly. Now cant Move it to a specified folder.

Hi,

• Click "Restore default" in the Location tab (via Desktop folder properties)
  
• Click "No" when you see the "Do you want to move all of the files from the old location to the new location?" prompt.
  
• Log off and log back in.
  
• Move your files manually to the old desktop location (D:\) to the new.
  

Alternately:

You can reset the Desktop folder path in the User Shell Folders registry key.

Start the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and go to the above branch.

Double-click "Desktop" and set its path accordingly in that registry branch. See the linked article for more info.

Once done, log off and log back in for the change to take effect.
