Windows 10: How to set the output volume at 0dB on windows 10?

I have to set up some audio monitors and in order to calibrate them, I have to set the audio interface output to 0dB, but since I don't own an audio interface, I use the direct 3.5mm output from my computer instead. This means that the output volume is determined by Windows' sound mixer. Is there a way for me to set it exactly at 0dB, when the Windows' volume control is on a scale of 0 to 100?

How does a receiver's volume setting correlate with the output?

I don't know a lot about this but AFAIK, 0dB is the reference volume. If everything is set correctly, and when playing the reference pink noise, your amp will be at maximum wattage and the speakers will be pumping the reference volume (e.g. Dolby is 105dB) when the volume is at 0dB.

As this is almightly loud, most systems use -20dB as the reference point for calibrating speakers.

 

Optimal windows settings for a new headset?

With my external solutions, like my Aune T1 DAC/AMP that I currently use, I run the Windows (source) volume at 100%, and then use the external volume to adjust the output to my headphones. That's how I achieved the best results for consistent and easy volume control and what I would suggest you try here. *Toast :toast:
