How to set up local account/user only, NOT microsoft One drive etc

I just got a new laptop and in setting it up I had to sign in to my Microsoft account. I do NOT want my computer connected to One drive etc. How do I change the set up to a local account/user instead of connected to Microsoft account? I have Windows 11 on my computer. Ive read in the community forum and it seems the old fixes no longer work.

    :)

  2. How to Change Microsoft user account to local user account

    Hi Pchelpmenow,

At this situation, what I can suggest you is you have to convert the Microsoft user account to local user account.

    • Log to the system using her user account.

    • Go to settings and click on Accounts.

    • Click on Your email and accounts and click on
Sign-in with a local account instead.

    • Enter the password, click on Next
and follow the onscreen instruction to convert into local account.
Hope this helps. Let us know the result for further assistance.

    Thank you.

Local Acct user and MS account user - sync them or merge them

If the local account is the one where you have most of your personal data, this is how I would do it:

    • Sign in to your Microsoft account
    • Copy all documents, pictures and other personal data from Microsoft account's user folders to corresponding folders in user Public (contents of MS account Documents folder to Public Documents folder and so on)
    • Sign out from Microsoft account
Notice that above steps are only required if Microsoft account user folders contain data you want to keep. If its user folders are empty or do not contain anything worth saving, you can skip the above steps. Continue from below.

    • Sign in to the local account
    • Delete the Microsoft account (Option One in this tutorial)
    • Switch your local account to a Microsoft account (tutorial)
    • Copy the data backed up from old Microsoft account to Public folders to new Microsoft account in corresponding folders

That's it. Using the Public folders as temporary storage you will have none whatsoever file owner / permission issues later on.

    Local and Microsoft Account

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

We understand your concern, as you are looking for an option to change the User account from one Hotmail to another Hotmail account without altering the settings and data. (i.e. from Neil (local) account to Neil Humphreys (Microsoft)
    account)

If I understood correctly, then perform these steps and convert the Microsoft User Account from Neil (local) account to Neil Humphreys (Microsoft) account. This will only change the Hotmail account for the Windows user account and
all the settings and data will remain unaffected.

    1. Press Windows + I key from the keyboard, to launch
      Windows Settings.
    2. Select Accounts and click on
Your info from the left pane.
    3. Click on Sign in with a local account instead and follow the onscreen steps.
    4. Once the user account converted to a
      local account perform step 1 & 2.
    5. Click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead and use the Hotmail Neil Humphreys (Microsoft) account that you would like to use and follow the onscreen steps.

    As an Additional reference:
Create a local user or administrator account in Windows 10

    We await your response.
