Windows 10: how to set Windows 11 to permanently display folder contents for general items ?

Hello, I would like to permanently set all folders on my computer to display general items, for example I don't want to see the artist for audio files, but the size etc. Is this possible ? Thank you for your answers. Martin

Don here, Windows 10 Independent Adviser. Have you tried setting the "Download Properties" of the download folder into "General items"?

If not, open up your file explorer then right click on the "Downloads" icon on the left hand side of the window. Click on "Properties" and then once a window opens up navigate to the "Customize" tab. Select "General items" from the "Optimize this folder for:"
list and then click Ok. Re-open your file explorer and check to see if the Downloads folder is still loading slowly or not.

Let us know if this did not work so we could suggest other possible solutions.

You would basically use the links in the steps in the tutorial posted above to first set all folders to use the same template (ex: "General items"), set the folder view to how (ex: "Type") you want, and then apply to all folders.

Note: Recent files are stored here:
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

I note that having had recent files disabled, if I enable that, and access two files, those are shown in Quick Access. But the content of the above is a much much longer list.

For more universal access in open/save dialogues and file explorer, consider using Listary (free). Amongst its numerous functions, e.g. middle click empty space offers this dialogue:





Hovering over Recent produces a vertical list in three sections, folders, files and one other. Simply click on the one you want.
