How to set Windows Explorer as default app for FTP protocol / link type

I have FTP locations saved as network locations in my computer, FTP://iphere/5555 for various devices I have on my network that I occasionally use FTP for - raspberry pi's, SBCs, etc. I also had windows SFTP optional feature enabled and Enable FTP folder view set in internet options so in windows explorer. I could click that network location, and as long as the target is running the FTP server it just opens like a regular folder in windows explorerThis worked fantastically up until recently, when windows downgraded itself to the last update, and now the default app for the FTP protocol is set

    :)

  2. FTP protocol default app

I can type an FTP address in to the address bar on File Explorer, log in and use the service. What I want is to set it as default, so when I click an FTP link File Explorer opens it. If I try to set the default app in Windows I am only offered browsers, none of which work. I don't want to install FileZilla, I want to use File Explorer. Is it possible?

1803 bug: No option to add new file types nor protocols for default applications in Settings App

Everyone can change a default app. This is about creating a new file type or protocol for a default app. Your suggestion and the issue are different things.

Look at the screenshot, imagine there is a protocol URL:000 that isn't in the list... how are you going to add URL:000 to the list?
