How to setup a back up of work folders onto an external HDD

Hi, I am looking at how to setup a backup that automatically saves a copy of certain folders from our work server and saves it on an external drive, to make things less cumbersome, it should only update changed or added files, is this possible, every time I ask the question I get told how to back up my PC,which IS NOT WHAT I WANT.

    :)

  2. Win10 install onto external HDD with previous personal files?

I'm looking to perform a clean install of Windows 10 on my computer, but I've been thinking of actually performing an install onto my external HDD instead and make it the new primary HDD. The thing is, I currently use my external HDD as my backup drive for
    all my personal files.

There is no previous OS installed on the external HDD, only the backup files are present. If I install the external HDD into my computer and boot it as the primary HDD, and subsequently attempt to install Windows 10 (and necessary drivers) onto it, will
all my previously backed up files be erased during the install? Or will they be preserved?

How to back up File Histories for two PCs onto one External drive

You need do nothing, File History should take care of keeping the various histories separate. The file structure starts at the top with a folder in the name of the user who's history it is. Beneath that is a folder with the name of the PC from which the history came, and within that are folders containing the data from that particular PC and its configuration.

Another PC will have its own folder in its own name. Multiple users and/or PCs should be able to share the same History drive without a risk of their histories getting mixed up. Sharing a drive between PCs is easier if it is a network drive. Mine is a usb HDD plugged into a usb port on my router.
