How to shut off S mode in Windows 11

Hey,Well, I have started using my Asus Vivobook with Windows 11 Home 64 in S mode. It works fine. And I am not interested in using any non-Microsoft software on this system. If I want to tinker, I will build a new system from the ground up. My real question is: Do I need to shut off S mode at all?I am not a gamer. I do like to watch movies and listen to music. About the only software that I will miss is my Adobe collection.

    :)

  3. Windows 10 shutting down mode

    Hi Ballarion,

As per the description I understand that you are unable to shutdown the operating system. Do not worry we will help you with this issue.

Provide us additional information to assist you better with this issue:

    • What is the make and model of your computer?
    • Have you made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue?
    • Are you able to boot the device to desktop/ stuck at shutting down with loading circle screen?
    • Have you closed all the applications before shutting down the computer?
    • Were you using any high end applications before trying to shutdown the system?

I recommend you to hard reboot the computer by pressing the power button on the computer, restart and check with the status of this issue.

If you are able to boot the operating system to desktop, try few of the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: I suggest you to run power troubleshooter and check if it helps. Please follow these steps:

    • Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar and click on it in results.

    • Click View all and then click
      Power.

    • Click Next and follow on-screen instructions.

Method 2: Disable Fast Startup and check if it works for you.

Fast startup is a new feature in Windows to help your PC start up faster after shutting down. When turned on, Windows does this by using a hybrid shutdown (a partial hibernate) method that saves only the kernel session and device drivers (system
information) to hibernate (hiberfil.sys) file on disk instead of closing it when you shut down your PC.

    Steps:

    • Press Windows +
      X
      key and click Control Panel.
    • Click on Power options.
    • Click on "Choose what the power buttons do".
    • Click on "Change settings that are currently unavailable". If it prompts to click on yes, then click
      Yes.
    • Uncheck "Turn on fast startup (Recommended)" under shutdown settings.
    • Click Save changes to configure the settings.

Hope it helps. Reply to the post with an updated status of shutting down the operating system for further assistance.

    Thank you.

Stuck in S Mode Windows 11

Thanks for reaching out! I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you.

Would you mind giving these steps a try and then informing me of the outcome? Feel free to skip the ones you've already tried:

    1. Basic Troubleshooting

    1. Check System Time and Date:

Ensure that the time and date on your computer are correct. Incorrect time settings can cause issues with the Microsoft Store.
    2. Update Microsoft Store:
      • Open the Microsoft Store app.
      • Go to "My Library" and select "Get Updates" to ensure all apps are up to date.
    3. Reset Microsoft Store:
      • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Type wsreset.exe and press Enter. This will reset the Microsoft Store cache.

    2. Using Microsoft Account

    1. Open Settings:
      • Press Windows + I to open Settings.
      • Navigate to System > Activation.
    2. Switch to Windows 11 Pro:
      • Under "Switch to Windows 11 Pro," click "Go to the Store."
      • In the Microsoft Store, click the "Get" button to switch out of S Mode.

    3. Advanced Troubleshooting

If the above steps do not work, you can try more advanced methods:

    1. Reset Microsoft Store via PowerShell:
      • Open PowerShell as an administrator.
      • Run the following command:

      • Restart your computer and try switching out of S Mode again.
    2. Reinstall Microsoft Store:
      • Open PowerShell as an administrator.
      • Uninstall Microsoft Store:

      • Reinstall Microsoft Store:

      • Restart your computer and attempt to switch out of S Mode again.

    4. Disabling Secure Boot (If No Microsoft Account)

    1. Access UEFI/BIOS:
      • Restart your computer and enter the UEFI/BIOS settings (usually by pressing F2, F10, Del, or Esc during startup).
      • Disable Secure Boot in the UEFI settings.
    2. Save and Exit:
      • Save the changes and exit the UEFI/BIOS.
      • Your computer will reboot, and S Mode should be disabled.
Please do let me know if the method I suggested works for you or if you need further assistance.
