Windows 10: How to simplify transition in Windows Mail of Verizon/AOL mail to new version Outlook in...

Windows mail is changing in 2024 in a merge with Outlook....the question is this... I have Verizon/AOL as my e-mail provider....Is there some way to get around all the rigamarole of having to go to aol.com and having to request a new password for this new mail application? I can also get my e-mail on Outlook as part of Office 365. Couldn't Microsoft just transfer my Office Outlook application to the Windows Mail app directly settings, AOL password and all without me having to go through Advanced Set-Up and AOL.com for a new password and a whole bunch of steps? Since Verizon handed their mail

Outlook and Verizon Mail on AOL

AOL has merged with Yahoo now both belong to Oath. My rarely used AOL mail however is working OK with IMAP on Thunderbird so must be just Verizon related.

All AOL based Email, that's AOL, AOLUK, Aim, Compuserve, Netscape and Verizon now goes through mx-aol.mail.gm0.yahoodns.net: Which is probably why it keeps throwing up the Yahoo stuff?

 

Outlook and Verizon Mail on AOL

Sometime back Verizon gave their e-mail operations to AOL. All has been working well until earlier this week when suddenly the IMAP folders would not sync. Checking online, all that could be found was to reset the IMAP settings in Outlook. After doing this multiple times, uninstalled/reinstalled Office 365. Seems Outlook wants to go to Yahoo servers instead of AOL. Using manual repair, attempts to change them to AOL were not successful, kept reverting back to AOL.
I contacted AOL, response was to reset the IMAP settings, which I've done many times.
Finally in a web search I found two threads in answers.microsoft.com about others with the same issues. AOL was giving them the run around as well.
Finally I got another response from AOL:

Based on the information provided, please note that you can encounter this situation due to the recent updates made to our website.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there is no option available that allows to make any changes to the specific settings.

Given the situation, you have the option to install and use the AOL App or you can access your account, by going to mail.aol.com.

We hope this information will be of use. Please let us know if we may assist you in the future.

Obviously AOL has no intention of resolving this issue. Not good news for Outlook users.

I inquired about setting up verizon/aol e-mail in windows mail (and/or Outlook) and the correct steps to set it up including where to input the server ports and the settings.
