Windows 10: How to sort photos by date in Windows 10. It's not easy apparently.

I just began using Windows 10 after using Windows 7 for years. It's been a huge change and I need some help with how to sort photos. I downloaded a couple thousand photos from my iphone to my pc and then renamed each one so they have titles. After I finished, I noticed they're all now displayed in alphabetical thumbnails which obviously means they're no longer in chronological order. I have tried numerous things but haven't been able to get them back in chronological order. The "Sort by" function won't let me remove "by name". Any ideas are welcome! So far, I hate Windows 10.

I understand that you want to sort your pictures in the way you want them. Kindly take note that the only options to sort your photos in Photo Gallery are the following:

• Date taken
• Date modified
• File size
• Image size
• Rating
• Caption
• File name

Also I suggest follow the below steps.

Press ALT + W + K, one after other & check if the photos are shown in the order they were taken.

Thanks for your response, but that doesn't seem to do anything in the Photos app I am running under Windows 10.

You mentioned Photo Gallery so I think you may be talking about a different application than the one I am using..

Hi,

You can change the dates of your photos in Windows 10. So, if you sort by date, then it also gets sorted by time within the date.

To change the date in photo, follow the steps below:

• First, in a File Explorer view of the directory, right-click the file or the photo you want to change the date.
• Select Properties.
• Click on the Details tab, then click on the Date taken
  field.
• Move your mouse cursor over to the actual value of the date and click on it, and the field becomes editable.

Some of the other metadata are also editable in the same way.
