Windows 10: How to stop / back out interrupted install of 1809?

I have 3 computers running Win 10 1803. On all 3 I've got the Windows Update Group Policiy to not automatically download and install maintenance. One of the computers is a test PC I use for first installs of maintenance or new software. It is usually not powered up.

Several fixes were being shown in Pending Download status on my "production" computers so yesterday I decided it was time to install maintenance. I brought up my test PC and was surprised to see no pending maintenance so I told Windows to check. It found and started to download the 1809 upgrade - absolutely not what I wanted. I shut down the PC to stop the upgrade and upon restart it showed an interrupted install. (I don't remember the exact wording.)

How do I get it to stop the 1809 install and check for 1803 maintenance? I've got a couple week old backup and will do a restore if there is no other way but hope I don't have to resort to that.

Windows 1809 Started the install on Surface Pro 4 but it stopped and the update screen closed by itself.

It started the download of 1809 and I walked away. Came back twenty minutes later and the update page was no longer open. Tried update again and it said it's updated.

It didn't complete the update or state the RESTART NOW.

Update history lists 1809 and states RESTART REQUIRED but since it didn't complete the install restarting does nothing.

So it thinks it's installed the 1809 update but it hasn't. It won't download 1809 again.

ABOUT say's it is 1803.

Suggestions?

 

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
