Windows 10: How to stop "How Do You Want To Open This"

I've made two videos of this:

It is pretty annoying when you are peacefully your computer then you try to listen to a .flac song, a .mp4, a .mp3, see a .jpg or .png photo then you notice it is not opening; when you minimize everything you are doing, you see this disgraceful warning*Mad

 

Hello, most people don't experience this. So you need to discover the problem in your particular case.

I note your photo shows a thumbnail, not an icon. It would be a little more useful if we knew what was associated.

** Note that if you have a program registered to open, say, a jpg, and you then install another program registered to handle that file type, you will get that popup.

Whether we think that's good or bad design is another matter.

And what happens when you click the box 'Always use this app' once you've found one that opens the file? Does that set an association or not?

Hi guys, I think this is not about Microsoft Edge. I already have the default programs that I chose working well. Opening videos (VLC), images (LibreOffice Draw) and documents but when I use the Task Scheduler to open that files, Windows still shows the pop up asking me "How do you want to open this file?" It's very frustrating.

 

Please post a screenshot of the action you have specified in the scheduler. You've probably set it up the wrong way, assuming you can simply specify the file you want to be opened. I recall someone else doing that.

Yes, as I thought- you can't just put a non-executable file there as the action.
Note what it says here:



- start a program (i.e. not an mp4 e.g.)

You can do sthg like




And if you want to make sure it opens your default player, specify explorer rather than D:\......winamp.exe

 

This worked for me. Quick and easy.
