I just did that. When asked to enter a new PW I just pressed Enter/Return. I now have to press Enter when waking up the comp, but do not need to enter any PW when Starting. So I am back to where I was. Whew!

I tried to go back to an earlier Restore Point but got "not done, file missing, mention of antivirus software causing trouble". I disabled Kaspersky, and Malwarebytes including unsetting "Run on startup", but no cure." Disturbing. What could have caused that please?

This has taught me a lesson not to delve into the engine room. Going to bed now, with a headache. I will live with the need to press Return when waking up..

Please see my reply to Brink, just posted.

No, I have no involvement in networks.

I find it is impossible actually to set no PW, in the sense that at minimum you need to press Return in a blank field when "setting a PW". While that constitutes no password as such, waking from sleep requires the Return key to pressed. It is inelegant but not the end of the world. (Before the Anniversary Upgrade was installed I didn't even need to press return.

I have never knowingly run an unattended Scheduled task. I have Macrium running a daily system backup. Normally, it runs even when the comp. is sleeping. Would that be affected, and how?

    Thanks.

Hi Steve , your thread had me thinking and got me wondering if the old trick I used for year in win7 and earlier still worked and it does, just tried it here .......here are my notes from years back.

press Win+R to bring up the Run box.

Next type control userpasswords2 and click OK. (use copy and paste)

    Dialog Box will Appear

Uncheck Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer and click Apply > OK.

May need to confirm your password now (only happens once)

    Restart your computer.

Once you have done this you will find that you will log on automatically to your computer, without seeing the login screen and having to enter your password or credentials.

Not sure if in Win10 you also need to disable the lock screen , or if this does that too? I had already disabled it previously in the Thread .

In my experience To Run Scheduled Task even with the above you still need to enter the Password once to setup the schedule, I didn't think a Blank PW was acceptable.

    Thanks KB. Will try that.

BTW. Macrium's daily backups are running OK when the comp. sleeps, so they must not be classed as unattended Scheduled tasks.
