How to stop specific cumulative update from installing? KB5007186

Currently by 15th November 2021, there is a new cumulative update KB5007186 that causing a lot of issue once installed into my PC. I already uninstalled the update once in safe mode. Now Windows Update is going to reinstall it into my PC again. I can't access Windows Update again once I accidentally close it, it just keep loading.

  2. Cumulative updates failed to install

    Hi Swapnil,

Do you get any error message? I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

Method 1: I would suggest you to run Windows update troubleshooter and check if it helps you fix the issue.

    • In the search tab type Troubleshooting and hit enter.

    • Select System and security.

    • Click Windows update troubleshooter and follow the onscreen instructions.
Method 2: I would suggest you to manually reset
the Windows Updates Components, restart the computer and check if that helps.

    • Press Windows Key + X on the keyboard and then select “Command Prompt (Admin)” from the menu.

    • Stop the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. To do this, type the following commands at a command prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
    net stop wuauserv

    net stop cryptSvc

    net stop bits

    net stop msiserver

    • Now rename the SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folder. You can do this by typing the following commands in the Command Prompt. Press the “ENTER” key after you type each command.
    ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old

    ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old

    • Now, let’s restart the BITS, Cryptographic, MSI Installer and the Windows Update Services. Typethe following commands in the Command Prompt for this. Press the ENTER key after
      you type each command.
    net start wuauserv

    net start cryptSvc

    net start bits

    net start msiserver

    • Type Exit in the Command Prompt to close it and then restart the computer
Now you may try installing the Windows Updates and check if the above steps resolve the issue.

Anyone else having problems getting the Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3156387) installed? This update has been failing for me & doing a failed to update after downloading & reboot, then rebooting & removing the update.

Can't install Cumulative Updates for v1909

I was having a different error than you, but still could not get any updates to work without failing after download - whether through Windows Update or downloading from the Catalog and doing it locally. After trying many people's lists of how to reset Windows Update, I finally did the Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade Installation & Upgrade by Shawn Brink. Other than going in and turning off Defender and the Firewall just in case to speed things up when it was "Getting Ready" (this step took about 2 hours for me), this worked flawlessly. I went from a busted 19041.264, to a repaired 19041.84. I was then able to go into Windows Update, and about five updates installed perfectly including the May and June cumulative updates. Just a suggestion if you run out of ideas, I had!
