Windows 10: How to stop windows 10 automatically rebooting

When using windows 10, when an update is nigh, a message appears in the bottom right.


However, when continuing to work, windows 10 will automatically reboot during the so called non-active hours. If one happends to have something running at the moment, it would only be apparant that this has been shut down the next morning.


There has to be a way to stop windows 10 from automatically rebooting, and only finalize the update once the user specifically says so. So far I have found older posts about this feature in update & security, but as of now april 2020, windows 10, build 18362 there is no such settings to be found.

Resolution Suggestion:

A simple solution but one that works in most circumstances!

1. Click Start, click Run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

2. In the list of services, right-click Automatic Updates, and then click Properties.

3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, and then click Apply.

4. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.

5. Right-click Background Intelligent Transfer Service, and then click Properties.

6. In the Startup type list, click Manual, and then click Apply.

7. If Service status is set to Stopped, click Start, and then click OK.
