Windows 10: How to stop Windows 10 updates

How can I stop Windows 10 from automatically updating? I will have work open or I'll be letting my computer do an automated process overnight only to discover that Windows has updated and lost all progress. Windows also for whatever reason thinks putting the computer to sleep for a short period is an acceptable time to update. Why are these pointless updates forced without permission? Its ridiculous how frequently this happens. And, solutions I have found which do not work are to turn off windows updates in services or setting active hours, so don't bother suggesting these.

That doesn't stop windows update from grabbing them on next run, at least it didn't back in the RTM days. It simply stops a secondary process from installing them immediately.

How to stop Windows 10 from automatically installing new and updated drivers constantly (particularly for GPU users with stable drivers)

• Right click "My Computer"
• Click "Properties"
• Click on "Hardware" tab
• Click "Device Installation Settings"
• Tick the "No, let me choose what to do"
