  1. How to test a SATA port

    Hey Guys,

Boy I sure hope that this thread doesn't go as long as the other one. BUT...a problem a raised when I disconnected all drives in the last thread "System Image Problem"

After all was fixed on recovering the Image, I plugged in all SATA ports and I found that my second DVD wouldn't work, tried switching SATA cables and ports and no luck on the DVD. I took a different DVD out of wife computer, Shush, hooked it up and still no recognizing the drive.

Is this possible that this situation can happen?? Is there a way to check this port other that what I did, without buying expensive SATA port checkers? Is there a way to force the system to recognize the DVD, the BIOS says its there.

  2. Storagespace, want to change SATA Controller for Devices

    Hi all,

i've running a parity storage pool of 3 x 4TB Sata HDD's on two different 2 Port SATA Controller.

    1. Could i switch thoose drives without loose of data to an other 4 Port SATA Controller?

    For example:

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 1 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 0

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 1

    Swtiched to...

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 3 Port 0

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 3 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 3 Port 2

    2. What happens when i switch the assignment between the Controllers and the HDDs?

    For example:

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 1 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 0

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 1

    Switched to...

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 1 Port 1

    1 x 3 x TB HDD on SATA Controller 2 Port 0

Please help me to figure out what happens in the two szenario's. I won't test this on my livesystem and there is no testsystem given.

    Many thanks

  3. GTX 980 fan spins at 100% on running heavy games

You can use the top 2 sata ports for the main os drive and the cd/ dvd burner

The 4 lowest darker color sata ports are for secondary storage drives

The lower lighter color sata ports are for other operating system drives.

The Express sata ports are for Raid drives only and no Raid is not worth doing How to test a SATA port :)

If you have drive issues it is a mess to fix.

See how it boots after adjusting the connections.

  5. Well...... , I tried what you suggested and here is what I conclude.

I switched cables by crossing them, and I got all drives working, so I concluded that I must have not had a cable seated very well. I switched them back and the problem happened again, now I am stumped. So I decided to put them in the position that made everything work. When I did, same condition.

So I conclude this, the Mother Board is bad, it is either cracked or the trace\s are broken. This being a multi-layer board, I hold no hope in fixing a broken trace.
