Windows 10: How to type text for text-to-speech

In Windows 8 and below you could type any text for the text-to-speech to read, but Windows 10 doesn't seem to let you do that. Is there a way to get this feature back?

Looking for speech to text and text to speech software

I had not. It's been awhile since I looked at it, but I want something that can read email, text from a doc, or from the net. I don't actually want something that reads everything on the screen. I had used a simple reading utility in the past and loved
it to double check myself. I've noticed watching tutorials that those doing the demo sometimes huff a little when it reads too much, if that makes sense. I seem to remember that happening in the classroom, too.

My desire to find simple apps for this are not because of a disability but rather for help when I'm busy. I can set my laptop on my kitchen island and have it read something to me someone sent while I'm cooking or have it proofread something to me that sometimes
eyes alone don't catch. I've even used it to double check numeric entries.

Have you looked at Settings, Ease of Access, Narrator?

 

Look in control panel\ease of access\speech recognition. In the left side select text to speech and adjust your settings as needed. I hope this helps.
