    How to 'unassociate' open with

HI, I have inadvertently clicked 'always open' this type of file with 'x' program when Right Clicking file and using 'open with' How do I reverse that? I want to have the flexibility to associate the file differently at times.

    Cheers

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. How to 'unassociate' open with :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

  3. I have problem unassociating files in Win10, specifically WMP.

Hello, I'm playing this game called They Are Billions, and I was just messing with the sound files, and I thought I could play them if I change the default app for it to launch, and I accidentally hit the "do this for all .dxsound files" for Windows Media
    Player.

I tried to search online on how to unassociated it, but the next problem is, WMP isn't in my list of default apps to begin with even.

Please let me know if you have any ideas

    How to 'unassociate' open with

DisAssociate/UnAssociate/Remove option from "Open with" menu

    Answers to latest suggestions:

1- I use CCleaner regularly to clean up the registry; I use the free version which I do not think has an option for dealing with the context menu. Now, even if the full version had this feature, I would not buy it because it is not worth it. The context menu issue is bothersome but does not prevent me from doing my job.

2- I made the change to the registry as suggested, the best I could. The two MS options (Photos and Movies & TV) were not listed, so I deleted everything else outside what I added (VLC, GOM). Made the corresponding change to the MRUlist as well, saved and rebooted. (but I could not delete the Default item)
The result: no modification in the "open with" list. Maybe this method would have worked if I tried to remove one of the options I added (VLC or GOM), but I am done experimenting.

For the benefit of others, I would consider this issue solved. As I said before, I can live with it. It is somehow frustrating that MS does not provide an appropriate utility for this operation. In the end, I will just love MS less.. *Sad

    Thanks again to all participants.
    Best,
    Mike
