Intermittent BLACK SCREEN On monitor happens once then display is frozen on black screen!

Looks like a real struggle but may be worth it judging by the claims I see at AMD & Sapphire. Sapphire has a support site too with FAQs...

I would do Greg's or Andre's clean install of v.1709 first. Let it pull in the drivers it will. If that fails to be a cure, then go to the AMD site & try the auto-detect again. Also, look over the Sapphire site. There is a FAQ at Sapphire that mentions the
problem; however, I don't see it applies to your version of AMD adapter.

All else I can think of is to inspect the display settings for a glaring anomaly, such as it has custom scaling. You don't want that...

(1) "START, Settings, Display".

Check the screen resolution is the recommended one, & that no custom scaling is used.

(2) Click "Display adapter properties" at bottom.

At the 4th tab (if its got one), click "Graphic Properties".

This will be what AMD or Sapphire has supplied. Check the resolution & scaling inside.

Well I re-installed the OS Microsoft Windows 10 x64 Home Retail again

Still the nearly same issue, the screen blinks black and then comes back.

Only this time it does not crash the PC on the second or third flash to black like it used to.

I don't really want to take my PC to a shop in case it works out expensive and I spent too much on it as it is.

And I'm stumped and sick of swapping the PC's over on the desk as I have only 1 monitor

I did all the following:

1 Booted up from Win 10 USB dingle dongle

2 Installed Win 10 from USB

3 Made sure to delete any and all partitions into one contiguous space during the install process

4 The system restarted and seemed to be okay at this point

5 I made a restore point and called it Windows-Base-Install

6 ***Windows OS automatically updated to the latest version

7 As part of the update - My original restore point was deleted
automatically

8 Installed Corsair link

9 Installed AMD VGA Drivers including Radeon re-live(?)

10 Installed Sapphire Trixx

11 Un-installed Radeon relive (still the same)

It is at #6 that everything started to give that deja-vu effect

I tried to update the vga drivers, corsair link drivers and added sapphire trixx in case one of them would fix the issue since they are the latest drivers.

Additionally, there is now artifacting on the screen, which wasn't there before but then before the pc would crash and now its not crashing.

 

I'm on an older version which will only run in admin mode. Will this latest version run in an user account without having to enter an admin password at the UAC prompt?

 

- it asks permission before initial installation, I guess that means admin permission is always required, at first..
- if you think about it, that would make sense..

 

Yes, you need the admin password for installation. But my older version of TRIXX produces the UAC prompt when you run it from a user account. Does the latest version do this?

 

-*yes, it requests authorisation*every time you run it frpm scratch..
- once loaded it can be saved to the systray - subsequently invoking it from there will not need authorisation..

- you will get a UAC request each time you run it straight from the App list, though

 

Thanks. I tried the latest version of TRIXX with my Sapphire R9 280X Toxic and it won't run showing various errors. I've reverted to previous TRIXX version 5.2.1 which is the version listed by Sapphire under the product support page for my GPU. Having to enter the admin password at the UAC prompt in a user account is annoying.

 

I have mine set to start*from boot-up
and also to minimize to systray on boot-up..

that way it is always available, without having to initialize it on every start-up..

- aren't those options available in your version?
