  1. How Windows 10 may have gotten its name

Rumors suggest the reason Microsoft skipped over "Windows 9" is because of Windows 95 - Neowin

Its the 29th and I have not gotten the notification for windows 10

Go here and follow instructions: Download Windows 10

Run the file WHILE in Windows 7/8/8.1

During install you will get the option to choose what to save, choose the third option, (which says something like "Do not save anything").

Is there a certain time that windows 10 will be released today? And also another question, when I upgrade to windows 10, do I have the option to set up as new computer?

The funny part is that any program that checks for Windows 95/98 is probably not going to work well (or as intended) on Windows 8, let alone the upcoming 10. So it really wouldn't matter much.

How Windows 10 may have gotten its name

No, those programs probably treated non-Windows 9x as NT, which would then work more or less fine in Windows 8.

  14. I read that the version check is the most reasonable explanation, but not everyone is buying that
Is this why Microsoft named it Windows 10? - CNET

    A not very funny joke:
They changed the name because 7ate9

I argued that 10 is 9 in base 9 only to be countered that this release is really Windows 2 in base 2

oh well - call it Charlie ... does it really matter that much? *Biggrin

A little surprised they haven't yet abandoned the numbering scheme.. i mean XP didn't do so bad. Are they trying to keep things orderly, or make it easier on the consumer?
