Windows 10: HP 15-DY2073DX with Dual External Monitors Lid Closed - Wake W11 Detects 3 Screens

The HP 15-DY2073DX has an ASUS PA248 monitor connected via left-side USB-A and ASUS PA248 connected via right-side HDMI. After configuring laptop to "Do Nothing" "When Closing The Lid" and closing the lid, Settings-Displays properly detects only the external monitors with Right One Extended. After the laptop sleeps overnight on wake by tapping SPACE BAR, Settings-Displays show 3 monitors including the laptop screen. The user has to open the laptop, wait for Windows to display then close lid so that only the external monitors are detected with Main and Extend. The laptop has all updates

Yep. The computer remained and I could use the external monitor. But all windows on the laptop screen moved over. Currently when the lid is closed, the windows remain on the laptop screen which is then "off"

 

Keep external monitors on when laptop lid is closed

Just in case this hasn't been resolved yet, you can get to the laptop lid settings by going to Start Menu and finding "Control Panel." When there, choose Hardware and Sound > Power Options. When on the "Power Options" screen, the list of options on the left should contain "Choose what closing the lid does." Choose that option and you should see settings for "When I close the lid" when "On battery" and when "Plugged in." You could choose to set both to "Do nothing." I usually set the "Plugged in" option to "Do nothing" when connected to external monitors.

NOTE: There is a quick way to get here from the Settings app too. There should be a "Find a setting" search box on the left. Type "lid" in there and hit Enter. A suggestion should come up that says "Change what closing the lid does." If you select that suggestion, it will take you to the same Control Panel location I mentioned above.

 

Using External Monitors with lid closed

I had my set up work before. I have a laptop and 2 monitors. One monitor is connected via VGA cord and the other via HDMI. When I shut the lid of the laptop the monitor connected via VGA disconnects and wants to go into power saving mode, like if the
computer went to sleep, while the monitor connected via HDMI stays on and working. I have verified that Power Options for when lid is closed for battery and plugged in are both set for "Do nothing" and I have tried restarting.

This set up was working and I had dual monitors working with the laptop closed. I disconnected my laptop from this setup and when I reattached all the cords the next morning it wasn't working anymore. I have tried closing the laptop (screen 1) when it is
duplicating screen 2 (VGA), duplicating screen 3 (HDMI), and all 3 screens separate and extended. I don't think I missed anything but I have to be forgetting something.
