Windows 10: HP 1KU84UA#ABA Laptop Hard Drive Failing

I have my daughter's HP 1KU84UA#ABA laptop here for updating.

However, when I turn it on, I get a notice that the hard drive is going to fail:

I have done the check, and indeed I'm told the hard disk is going to fail.

I can press Enter, and the computer boots as per normal.

Of course, the original problem is that Daughter can't remember her password because it's been a year or more since the computer has been used.

Which is another problem; I can't seem to boot from a USB stick. *Sad I think it's because of the failing hard drive message.

Oh, yeah, I've opened the laptop and the hard drive doesn't look like a normal SATA. *Sad

Notepad automatically opening when ABA file downloaded

We suggest that you follow these steps to uncheck the Always open this type of file:

• Right click on an ABA file.
  
• Hover your mouse cursor on Open with and select Choose another app.
• Uncheck the Always open this type of file and click on
  OK.

Laptop hard drive upgrade

To replace a hard drive on a laptop is a little more troublesome than a desktop. 1st as most people here suggest you will need some sort of a backup disk just in case. Also be sure when buying the new Hard Disk is compatible with your model. And i would strongly suggest you install a new system and start from scratch because there are far too many problems that can occur when transferring system files.
