    HP A6403W 32bit To 64bit Issues-Need Insight

I recently installed 2 GB more memory and did a zero fill, clean install Windows 10 Home 64bit. 1709 version would not let me install the Nvidia 7100/630i 64bit driver, which I preset the download to run in Windows 8 mode. That is how I had it when at 32bit (Windows 8 mode no issues). I then clean installed 1703 version and did same procedure and the onboard Nvidia 7100/630i 64bit driver installed ok. After a few uses I got a BSOD with nvlddmkm.sys error, disabled the nvidia item in services and it is stable at this point.

I ordered (not here yet) a Nvidia MSI Geforce GT 710 2GD3 LP hoping this will help stability and it has Windows 10 drivers. The Nvidia 7100/630i is onboard and bios states it is in PCI not onboard. It is working fine and has obviously been in that mode as a default. I decided to change it to onboard and the results have created a new error BSOD PFN List Corrupt. I reset bios and re imaged the computer and back to stable.

What do I have to do when installing the new card? I know how to do it etc. The new card will go into the PCI E x16 slot. The bios has a setting for this slot for graphics also. Choice of 3 PCI, Onboard, PCI E x16. Default is PCI. Also to note I did two different memory tests and they turn up good. Any help I would appreciate it. This is my old PC from 2008 and would like to keep it awhile yet. TIA adam

    :)

    Windows 7 (64-bit) and Outlook 2010 (64-bit) won't fully sync with WMDC

I am truely annoyed by the Microsoft folks, I expect integration with my phone which is less than a year old (WinMob 6.5) and Windows 7 professional (64bit) and MS Office 2010 (64bit), why should I have to use a 32bit application suite on a 64bit platform,
just because MS lack of insight.

  3. Can I upgrade from 32-bit Windows 7 to 64-bit Windows 10 with the free upgrade?

    Hi,

It is an Upgrade to Windows 10 that you are being offered for free.

    And 32bit upgrades to 32bit.

32bit to 64bit is not an upgrade and you need to do a clean install for that.

    Windows 7 32bit > upgrades to Windows 10 32bit.

    Windows 7 64bit > upgrades to Windows 10 64bit.

    Cheers.

Can you install the chipset drivers for Win 7 X64 in compatibility mode? (They're from 2011.)

    http://www.nvidia.com/download/drive...px/30520/en-us

If that doesn't work, it may be possible to extract the drivers (I recommend the free 7zip) and manually install them. I vaguely recall having to do that with a Compaq laptop of similar vintage with an old nVidia chipset (but for an AMD CPU).

It may be a bit of a struggle getting a system like that, with no official support for anything new than Windows 7, fully functioning. Ought to work, though.

What really seems to be happening is I think 64bit Windows 10 is way more fragile than I would like for this PC. It is 64 Bit capable though.

I am looking ahead to the new card Nvidia Geforce GT 710, and any tips on the install and bios setting. If I were to clean install Windows 10 64bit again, with bios set correctly to PCI E x16 and new card in place... would this be best? Or leave bios in default PCI (Onboard running on this mode PCI YES REALLY) And uninstall the Nvidia 7100/630i, shutdown/install new card/ Start up and install current drivers. And see how it goes.

Yes, default to the new PCI-E Graphics Card in the BIOS settings so that's how it always boots up.

I would just remove the PCI Graphics card assuming it's in one of your slots. Waste of time trying to get that to work.

The Nvidia 7100/630i is on the main board not PCI, bios default is PCI. So another clean install Win 10 64bit with new GPU in place PCI E x16, and set bios to PCI E x16 before install begins? I will be putting in a new 400w power supply too prior.
