Windows 10: HP Clicking

Good morning everyone,
I have an Hp with intel Pentium cpu 3700 @ 1.60 Ghz. The computer is a little over a year old. The problem I am having is when it runs for a while, I begin to hear clicking noises. I am not sure where its coming from. It usually starts this noise when I am running a CAD type software. It will click for a while then stop. Do you guys think the hard drive is going bad? Could I boost the performance by changing the Hard drive and adding memory? It has 8 gigs now. Thank you for any help I receive on this.

The issue could be if the drivers are either not updated or get corrupted. So, I would suggest you to update the touchpad drivers and check if it helps you to fix the issue.

The issue could also arise due to outdated drivers that might not be compatible with Windows 10. So, I would suggest you to keep checking your Windows updates not only important one but optional too. If any available try to install them
and see if it helps you to fix the issue.

Follow these steps to check the status of the device in Device Manager.

a. Press Windows key +X and select
Device Manager.

b. Right-click the device and click Properties.

c. On the General tab of the device
Properties dialog box

d. Check the status of the device and let us know.

If there is a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark in it, then it indicates that there are some issues with it.

You need to make sure that the touchpad is turned on if you are using the inbuilt touchpad. You can refer to the computer manual to know how to turn on\off the touchpad.

I suggest you to try the following trouble shooting steps and check if the issue persists.

Method 1:

I would suggest you to run “Hardware and Devices” troubleshooter to diagnose the exact issue.

Follow these steps to run the troubleshooter:

a. Press “Windows key + W”.

b. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes in the Search box and hit enter.

c. Select “Hardware and Sound” from the Troubleshooter Window.

d. Select “Hardware and Devices” under Devices option.

e. Follow the On Screen instructions.

Method 2:

Un-install and re-install touch pad drivers from the manufacturer’s website and see if that helps:

Step 1: un-install the drivers:

Follow these steps.

a. Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.

b. Select Device Manager.

c. Find and double-click Touchpad Driver from the left panel to uninstall

d. Right-click the device, and click
Uninstall.

e. Windows will prompt you to confirm the device’s removal. Click
OK to remove the driver.

f. After the uninstallation is complete, reboot your computer as soon as possible.

Step 2: Download the latest touchpad drivers from manufacturer’s website and install on your PC.

HP Touchpad clicking problems

I just upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10. Now my HP notebook's touchpad clicking feature often will jump from the menu icon instead of activating it. I then have be bring the cursor pointer back to the icon and try again. This often happens several
times before finally activating the icon instead of jumping off of it. I checked for updates for the touchpad driver, but there were none. I tired using the Windows 10 to check on the settings of the touchpad. I found some guidance with multiple steps that
could taken to change settings for the click feature of the touchpad, but that guidance did not match what I saw when trying to follow the presented steps.
I am at a loss here, is there something I am missing? I also tried changing the setting I could find for the touchpad using Windows 10, but none of those corrected the problem. I never saw this problem in Windows 7 now I wish I never
let my notebook to be updated.

 

Yes, it is possibly your hard drive. You need to save what you can by backing up your hard drive.

 

Thank you! I thought that may have been the case. everything is an external drive. I am going to replace the HDD. do you think that this computer can be upgraded? Like I said, its a Pentium and would like to go with something like and i5.
