    HP Compaq 6910p AHCI deactivated Samsung PM830 drive SLOW


    Fresh install of W10 1909 x64 on an HP 6910p with 8GB RAM and Samsung PM830 SSD

    SATA/AHCI chipset is "Intel 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)"

    Drive is really slow, Samsung Magician reports AHCI is deactivated.

    BIOS setting SATA Native mode is "Enabled" which should enable AHCI.

    Help please ...

    Samsun PM830 SSD really,really slow


    Installed on an HP6910p laptop. BIOS SATA mode is set to native (which should activate AHCI).

    Samsung Magician Identifies it as a PM830 but says "not supported" reporting the serial number as S0TYNYABC21199? And it says AHCI is not active?

    Samsung Magician benchmark (when I found out how to drive it) says the performance isn't too bad:

    saying it was good for 276 MB/s read speed.

    But Crystal Disk Mark shows a more interesting result:

    The HP support website does not list any drivers for windows 10 and, since your laptop speed is capped at SATA 1 (150 MBps) speeds, I doubt you will ever obtain anything better than what you already have; however, this post might be an interesting read for you but it does not apply to windows 10:

    new samsung 860 ssd magician software 5.21 disables ahci

    took back the 860 to best buy and got another 850 evo works just fine. Also went to Samsung support and their message boards . Found others who had same ahci deactivated problems due to lack of upgrading their controller drivers for the 860 to work properly.Thanks
    for your suggestions but let Samsung fix this Richie
