Windows 10: HP DX2300 Win 10 update

Hi,

Has anyone managed to install Windows 10 Home on a HP Compaq dx2300 microtower (circa 2007)? I would like to hear from them.

First thing is I have been looking around for the latest BIOS revision, but cant seem to find it. Anyone help with this please?

If the hard drive is formatted GPT with a UEFI BIOS then the target PC would also need to have a UEFI BIOS for it to have any chance to boot existing Windows 10. But if the hard drive is formatted MBR then the target PC will need to have a Legacy BIOS or
have the UEFI firmware set to allow Legacy or CSM to boot first. To try this unplug all other hard drives.

Windows 10 is more adaptive than previous Windows so if it matches the above then it may start up. Otherwise you can try a few Startup Repairs from
Advanced Startup Options. Report back any findings, errors or failure behavior.

Once started you'll need to reactivate. If this is the Envy which comes with embedded Windows 8 Product Key, then try reading the Product Key with

ProduKey to insert OEM BIOS key at Settings>System>About after confirming you have Version 1511 which allows activating with the old OS Product Key.

It may first be necessary to reset to the Default
Generic key to install Windows 10 RTM especially if the PC has a Windows 10 embedded Product Key.

Drivers to XP 64 bits.

 

How did you get to that BIOS? When I clicked on your link, I was presented with: "No software or drivers are available for this product with the selected operating system. Please make a different selection, or visit the product homepage". (Didnt make any difference what OS I selected). So I gave up.

AAAh.... click on change!

Best have a look on the HP forums or ask there.. but there's absolutely no guarantee of compatibility of course, esp. with low level drivers.

 

Just to let anybody else looking for an answer to this, I loaded up Win 10 no problem without having to load up any drivers. *Smile
