Windows 10: HP Elitebook 8440p frozen screen when moving the mouse from black screen

Hello I have an HP Elitebook 8440p with NVIDIA NVS 3100M graphics and whenever I wake the computer from idle by moving the mouse the screen turns on and freezes, and I have to press ctrl alt del or ctrl shft win b to reset the graphics driver and unfreeze it, and whatever I have done clicking random places when the screen was frozen would show up. This is very annoying and I tried the 2010, 2013, and 2016 versions of the graphics driver, as well as a repair install of windows. How do you fix this problem, thank you

HP 8440p laptop with Win 10 - black screen ?

I have a weird occurrence on this older laptop HP 8440p. Every once in a while - and too often - the screen will go black - the cursor will still be working and the machine is running, but the screen will be black and nothing will happen. I have left it for hours and the computer does not come back on. This will happen when it is being used or when it is sitting idle.
The other day I was playing a game on it and the screen went black. I could still hear the game being played and the cursor were still responsive but I could see nothing.
What I have done :
1) Used the MCT and created a new win 10
2) updated the drivers the best I could (they only have drivers for win 7 on the HP website)
3) I have turned off the power/sleep options.

Any suggestions? Also, I do not know how to get into SAFE MODE - pressing f8 did not work.

Its a black screen with no menu or icons but you can move the mouse freely

i seem to be getting this alot lately. how do i solve it?

windows boots, welcomes, then i get black screen with mouse and nothing else. mouse works, its not frozen. it will sit at that screen for hours.
