Windows 10: HP Elitebook 8440p microphone stops working after sleep

Hello, About a month ago I've encountered a very strange problem with my laptop. The microphone stops recording any sound whenever I put the laptop to sleep and wake it up. It won't work for an extended period of time, and sometimes it'll just suddenly start working again, I don't know why yet. The sound driver is installed correctly. I've reinstalled Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 10 on this laptop and all three operating systems exhibit the same problem, so it doesn't appear to be a compatibility problem. In that case, I think you're unfortunately out of luck. HP is the source for that information, and if they're not cooperating, your chances of finding out the required data are between slim and none ... leaning heavily towards none.

It's possible that an independent computer repair tech who has been in business for 10 years or more will know how to deal with that, but I wouldn't be very hopeful.

I was looking to find out how old your laptop might be in order to justify the 10 years in the above sentence and I ran across the following listing. Perhaps you should cut your losses. Usually, its your chipset driver.

The most recent driver for this model are Windows 7 only. So, you will have to try those to see if they work:

Make sure the most important are installed: Chipset, Display driver and Network (Ethernet and Wireless).

Also, install any storage drivers.

To find other drivers that might be missing.

Press Windows key + X

Click Device Manager

Right click in entries you see with an exclamation sign

Click Properties

Go to the Details tab

Click in the Property list box

Choose Hardware ids

Choose the shortest value in the value list box

Right click it then click Copy

Open your web browser and go to your favorite search engine then paste it in then perform a search. It should provide a description and like resource link where you can download the driver.
