    HP G1 with Switchable graphics: Cannot control Vari-Bright or Variable

    This is windows 10 Pro running on HP 450 G1 with Switchable Intel HD & AMD Radeon HD 8600/8700 Graphics. I actually have 2 of these, identical except for one having SSD the other HDD. Both are up to date Windows 10 Pro Version 19043.1052 The Graphics drivers appear to be last/current on both. The issue is old Vari-bright [sometimes written vari-brite] - an AMD power saving feature similar to Windows [or is it Intel?] Variable Brightness, although the purpose for each is different as I read: The AMD 'feature' responds to what is being displayed; the Windows feature responds to ambient lighting. The problem manifestation looks like a monitor problem: the display brightness nervously changing three or four times in a matter of seconds as one engages with applications painting the screen. I've dealt with this in the past, usually easily resolved with the AMD control panel, old or new. In this case, neither old Catalyst or new "Radeon Software" panels have a setting for the feature - it is being defeated somehow. I've looked up the data and pictures etc on both - its just not there. Using Catalyst, the entire PowerPLay section is actually empty. The category is there, but there is nothing 'under' it. How do I defeat this devil? I searched the registry for a "Vari-bright" key but there is none. all help gladly applauded!

    :)

    HP Switchable Graphics Problem

    My computer is an HP Pavilion dv6-6047cl Entertainment Notebook PC with Intel i7-2630QM 2.0 GHz processor, with 8 GB RAM.
    I have had several different graphics problems and have upgraded the drivers.
    It has HP Switchable Graphics with an Intel HD Graphics 3000 driver and AMD Radeon HD6700M, with the Catalyst Control Center (CCC).

    The computer recently crashed and would only open in non-Aero mode (screen looked like safe mode).
    It also made IE11 settings changes to the computer, and added a search add-on called "OneSourse, which I have deleted.
    These problems were not corrected by system restore.
    I scanned the Computer with Microsoft Safety Scanner, Microsoft Security Essentials and Malwarebytes, and it checked out clean.

    Due to continuing graphics problems, I deleted AMD Radeon HD6700M and Catalyst Control Center, and am just using the Intel HD Graphics 3000 display driver.
    It seems to work fine in this configuration, as there is no more CPU robbing Catalyst Control Center or freezing screens on start up, among the other problems I noted.
    I normally use the computer in plugged in mode.

    Is there any down side to eliminating the AMD Driver and CCC and using only the Intel HD Graphics 3000 display driver?

    I do not use this computer to play games, and while it could possibly use it for Blu-ray playback, it is primarily used for Internet surfing, Youtube, and running Microsoft Office programs.

    Variable Brightness Issue

    Hello, I am Anderson S. and I am an independent specialist and I come to help in the best possible way.

    First of all, I suggest you access the website of your equipment manufacturer and by model, download and install all available drivers, such as the keyboard, video card, USB, chipset, Bios, among others.

    The video driver must be compatible with Windows 10, if the manufacturer does not yet have compatible drivers, download the latest version and update in compatibility mode.

    Step 1

    Updating the video driver in compatibility mode

    Go to your computer manufacturer's website to download the video driver compatible with the Windows 8.1 operating system and perform the steps below:

    Right-click on the driver icon, choose an option to solve the compatibility problem;

    Click recommended settings;

    In the new window designed to solve program compatibility problems, click the option to test the program;

    At the end of the test, click on Next;

    On the next screen click Yes, save settings for the program;

    And lastly click on close troubleshooting.

    Test and see if the behavior is repeated, if the behavior continues, perform the next procedure.

    Step 2

    1. Right-click the Start button and go to Device Manager.

    2. Click the arrow (>) next to Monitors.

    3. Right-click on your monitor, example: Generic PnP Monitor

    4. If it is not active, click Activate.

    Test and see if the behavior is repeated, if the behavior continues, perform the next procedure.

    Step 3

    Try to adjust the brightness automatically.

    Adaptive brightness is a feature of Windows that uses a light sensor to automatically adjust the brightness of the video to the lighting conditions of the environment in which the computer is located. To use adaptive brightness, light sensors must be installed
    and enabled on the computer.

    To determine whether the laptop or computer monitor works with adaptive brightness, look for the Enable adaptive brightness setting in the Power Options (mentioned in the following procedure) or check the information provided with the computer.

    To enable or disable adaptive brightness

    Press the Windows + X keys, click Control Panel, System and Security, and Power Options.

    For any plan, click Change plan settings.

    Click Change advanced power settings.

    In the list, expand Display and Enable adaptive brightness.

    To enable or disable adaptive brightness when the computer is using a battery to operate, click On battery, and in the list, click On or Off.

    To enable or disable adaptive brightness when the computer is plugged into an outlet, click Connected, and in the list, click On or Off.

    Click Apply. Click on OK.

    I hope I have helped, please let me know if you have any more questions regarding the matter in question.
